A teacher in the series Azumanga Daioh is named Kurosawa. Akira Kurosawa is a famous Japanese filmmaker, best known for Rashomon and The Seven Samurai.

actually, for the record, it was a reference to the director Kurosawa, not the Azumanga Daioh teacher... i didnt make that connection till i saw it here in the forums and also made the mental connection :)
